AFA Celebrates Educational Excellence in Ariel

For the past two decades, American Friends of Ariel has been supporting excellent educators and students. On June 23, 2013 the AFA hosted a festive gala at the “big top tent” at the Ariel National Leadership Development Center to honor this year’s Outstanding Educators. The event came exactly a month after ADF awarded scholarships to residents of Ariel studying toward their BA across Israel.

The event, attended by 250 of Ariel’s educational staff, was held in the presence of Mayor Eliyahu Shviro, city council members, representatives of the AFA, officials from Ministry of Education, school principals, chairman of the parent’s councils, teachers and assistants, members of the PTA, and City employees. The Ministry of Education has recognized Ariel’s investment in education by conferring upon Ariel the National Prize for Education earlier this year.

Each year’s Outstanding Educators are nominated by their peers and don’t learn of their award until it is announced at the annual gala. Outstanding Educators receive a season membership to the Ariel Regional Center for the Performing Arts.

AFA also gave financial scholarships last month to six students with proven commitment and contribution to the city. The scholarships were awarded upon their completing volunteer work in Ariel’s Department of Education and community projects.

American Friends of Ariel thanks the Milken Family Foundation for their consistent support of this project, which continues to enrich Ariel’s education system year after year.
