American Friends of Ariel awards 11 students with scholarships

May, 2012

scholarships

Each year the American Friends of Ariel provides scholarships for residents of Ariel who study for their bachelor degrees in colleges and universities across Israel. The scholarship committee requires and reviews basic criteria such as a residency of at least 5 years in Ariel, personal need for financial aid, and a genuine will to give back to the city. This year 11 students received scholarships after completing volunteer work in Ariel’s Department of Education and in other community projects.

One of the awarded scholarships was the Brenda Wygant Memorial Scholarship provided through Faith Bible Chapel. This scholarship will apply to the recipient for the duration of her bachelor’s degree.

The scholarship ceremony took place in the Mayor’s Chambers on May 24th, 2012. Avi Zimmerman, Executive Director of American Friends of Ariel, Eli Gilad, Director of the Social Services Department and Sarah Pereh, Director of the Department of Education each addressed the group.

Mayor Ron Nachman addressed each of the students personally, and before presenting them with their scholarships asked them to consider contributing their professional talents to the City of Ariel by assuming positions in the city upon the completion of their studies.

We are sure that all of the recipients will go on to make their parents and Ariel very proud. Mazel tov to the winners, and all the best in this opening of an exciting new chapter of their lives.
