Student Scholarships

Picture 013

Every year, the American Friends of Ariel provides scholarships for residents of Ariel who study for their bachelor degrees nationwide. The scholarship committee requires and reviews basic criteria such as residency of at least 5 years in Ariel, personal need for financial aid and a genuine will to contribute back to the city. This year twelve students received scholarships after completing volunteer work in Ariel’s Department of Education and in other community projects.

The ceremony took place in the Mayor’s Chambers on May 27th. Avi Zimmerman, Executive Director of American Friends of Ariel, introduced the speakers. Eli Gilad, Director of the Social Services Department, spoke of the importance of defining a personal life meaning and setting personal goals as a basis for future Picture 008success. Sarah Pereh, Director of the Department of Education, spoke about giving — “many times we give in order to receive, but you have received in order to give”.

Mayor Ron Nachman summarized the presentations and added a personal tone to this special evening. He shared stories about some of the students’ parents who were actively involved in building and establishing the City of Ariel ever since the “good old days”. He addressed each of the students personally, adding some food for thought as they pursue their academic studies. Before presenting each of the students with their scholarship, Mayor Nachman invited our young professional-to-be to consider contributing their professional talents to the City of Ariel by pursuing positions in the city upon the completion of their studies.

May each and every one of our students succeed during the course of their studies, and beyond.
