Some 14,000 students were back in Ariel on October 21 for the start of the new academic year. This time around, they weren’t studying at the Ariel University Center; instead, they were heading to Israel’s eighth and newest university – Ariel University.

The academic body responsible for determining the institution’s eligibility for university status, known as the Council for Higher Education in Judea and Samaria, gave an official recommendation to fully approve the upgrade. And while the final signature from General Nitsan has yet to be forthcoming, the status is assured. Israel’s cabinet, under Prime Minister’s Netanyahu’s leadership, decided to confirm the upgrade status. The remaining technicalities merely are a matter of time.

Education Minister Gideon Sa’ar and Finance Minister Yuval Steinitz were in attendance at the momentous opening day in a show of support for the new university, which has had to endure quite a rocky road on its path to full university status.

American Friends of Ariel is proud to share Ariel University’s current and future accomplishments with the international community. We look to you, our friends, to join our efforts.
