Academic Year Begins For Israel's newest University!
Some 14,000 students were back in Ariel on October 21 for the start of the new academic year. This time around, they weren't studying at the Ariel University Center; instead they were heading to Israel's eighth and newest university - Ariel University.

American Friends of Ariel awards 11 students with scholarships
Each year the American Friends of Ariel provides scholarships for residents of Ariel who study for their bachelor degrees in colleges and universities across Israel. The scholarship committee requires and reviews basic criteria such as a residency of at least 5 years in Ariel, personal need for financial aid, and a genuine will to give back to the city.
Ariel University Holds Graduation Ceremonies
Over a three-day period, the Ariel University Center was proud to award some 2,047 graduates with their diplomas.
Ariel – the first city to provide laptops to its education staff.
Laptops were provided to Ariel’s kindergarten managers in a ceremony on May 22, 2012. The event marked the completion of “Laptop for Every Teacher,” the distribution of laptops to all the education teams in the city from kindergarten to the 12th grade.

Hanukkah Celebration at Antenna Hill
The light of Hanukkah was evident on a rainy, cloudy night on the lonely army post of Antenna Hill, just outside of Ariel. Ariel volunteers from the Friends of the IDF visited the post to bring some holiday spirit to the soldiers. The Hanukkiyah was lit with joy and singing.
New Rescue Fire Truck Gives Ariel Mayor a Lift
The city of Ariel received a nice Chanukah present from the Israeli government this week. The Ariel Fire Department finally received two new shiny red fire trucks. One of the trucks came equipped with a long awaited tower ladder, which is necessary for fighting fires in tall buildings.

TAAPP : The Torah Academy Ariel Partnership Program
American Friends of Ariel is proud to announce our new partnership between the residents of Ariel and the Greater Philadelphia Jewish community. Len Getz, a Zionist Organization of America activist from Philadelphia, initiated this important relationship. Both he and ZOA of Greater Philadelphia Executive Director, Steve Feldman, have facilitated a series of relationships between Ariel and the Philadelphia Jewish community which have begun to bear fruits.
The Olive Tree Initiative - Backers Come to Ariel
The Olive Tree Initiative, born in the University of California at Irvine, has been the subject of considerable controversy over the past few months. The program - designed to improve the campus educational environment - brings various students to Israel to get a firsthand look at what is going on behind the headlines. However, it has been suggested that their visits to Israel bring them in contact with a disproportionate number of anti-Zionists and Israel antagonists instead of presenting a balanced exposure to both. That is until the group meets with Mayor Ron Nachman.

ZOA Tribute Concert for the IDF Cancelled : Mishloach Manot Distribution Unabated
With a heavy heart, the Israeli Defense Forces notified the American Friends of Ariel that they will not be able to attend the exciting tribute concert that was planned for 500 soldiers at the Ariel Regional Center for the Performing Arts (ARCPA). The horrific slaughter of the Fogel family in Itamar has the IDF mobilized and engaged, rendering the soldiers unavailable for this Wednesday's anticipated performance.
Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations
For the first time in a quarter of a century the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations came to the City of Ariel on Thursday, February 17th. The Conference brought three busloads of leading figures from America’s primary Jewish organizations. Mayor Ron Nachman was here in Ariel to greet the group back in 1986 and he was here – yet again - to greet the delegates for their long awaited "return visit" in 2011.

Mayor Ron Nachman invites US President Barack Obama to visit Ariel
Mayor Nachman has invited President Obama to visit Ariel and see for himself that it is not a stumbling block for peace. “All the wisdom is not just in Washington or Jerusalem,” Nachman told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday, as he described the letter, which he sent out last week.
