The City of Ariel was recently named the Healthy City. The city has clearly “gone green”, with a strong focus on recycling projects, water conservation and ecological initiatives. Ariel’s air is rated the cleanest in Israel. The nearby factories in Ariel’s regional industrial zones do not pollute the environment. In addition, the city has embarked on a unique program to teach consumers how to save energy, gas and water. The City of Ariel is clearly at the forefront of environment awareness and action.

 

City in Nature 

Ariel is pre disposed to an ecological orientation. Situated along the slope of a prominent mountain in the heart of Samaria, Ariel both a beautiful view over Israel coastal plane. Ariel’s residential areas are located alongside a natural wide-life reserve. The deer that roam through the hills share the habitat with the birds that can be heard tripping around the city. The city of Ariel is, in essence, an ideal prototype for a healthy integration between human society and nature.

 

 

The City of Ariel provides its residents with fitness opportunities throughout the city. Several new walking paths were recently dedicated in honor of the city’s 30th anniversary. In addition, four outdoor fitness centers have been established in different locations, each free for public use.

 

American Friends of Ariel continue to do its part to contribute to the physical and emotional health of Ariel’s residents. With the help of our generous donor’s indoor and outdoor sports facilities has been created, from tennis courts to gymnasiums to playgrounds.

 

Milken Sports & Recreation Complex 

Most prominent of all, the new Milken Sports & Recreation Complex is a site to be beheld. In reaction to the violence and terrorism that began with the Intifada (Islamic uprising) in the year 2000, Mayor Ron Nachman initiated the construction of a comprehensive sport facility. He envisioned a family center where Ariel residents could build themselves both physically and emotionally. Thank to the help of so many of our supporters that vision is now a reality. The indoor-outdoor swimming pool, the fitness center and the facility’s restaurant are but a few of the site’s features. Surprising but true, the new complex has had a tangible impact on every day life in Ariel. It is changed the way people view life in the city and it’s affected the city’s attitude towards a health culture.
